This was such a timely message for me. It helped me understand one of the reasons behind why I’ve been feeling so discouraged and frustrated lately, and like I’ve lost touch with my passion and why I’m doing what I’m doing.
To answer your question about realistic expectations–I know that I need to stop expecting my writing and speaking to life to look like those I hold up as examples of “successful.” As a non-driving single mom who still has a teenage son at home, I must limit my travel. Because of my vision problem, I must take breaks from the computer, so I will never be one of those writers who cranks out thousands of words per day. I will always need to have several “side hustles” for income, so I want to enjoy them. For this reason I’m taking some time to consider what I actually enjoy and what feels like drudgery, and what I really feel God calling me to write and speak about so I can go into the next step with more focus.
I plan to take your list of question to a writing retreat I’m going on with a friend in a few weeks.
Thank you so much! I love you both!
I am very careful about putting too much on my plate as far as making sure I have something coming off before something is added. There are times of overlap, but I know when that is going to happen so am prepared for that. My biggest lightbulb moment is realizing I have a hard time feeling successful. Not that the task isn’t done well, but because I am always thinking of how to do things better. Thinking back to our strength finder.. my top two..strategical and futuristic, then connectedness, woo, and faith. I need to accept that I have had success in regard to the task I just completed.
