Welcome back! Thank you for joining us in part 2 of “Finding Your Niche” with Kathi Lipp and Michele Cushatt. Last week you learned why it’s important to find your niche and today you’ll learn how to find it.
Kathi shares two very specific questions to help you with this. Even if you don’t know what your passion is and as Michele says, “When you can’t see the forest through the trees,” Kathi encourages you how to find out what your niche is in a very simplified way. If you’ve been wondering what your message is and how to pinpoint it and cultivate it, today’s episode is just for you.
In today’s episode, you will know:
- What the 2 questions are that Kathi asks when it comes to finding your niche.
- Why asking yourself what your passionate about can help you find your specialty.
- What an example of expertise looks like when it comes to finding a niche.
- What it means when people keep asking you the same question.
As promised, here is Kathi’s helpful sentence when narrowing down and clarifying your niche. Fill in the blanks with your own answers to help you find yours.
“I can offer ______ to ______ who are ______ about ______because _______.”

I loved the questions to ask myself on this podcast. My fill in the blanks statement feels a little clunky still but here’s the rough draft:
I can offer ridiculous hope & encouragement to families dealing with autism who are looking for God in this diagnosis and need reassurance that we are all fearfully and wonderfully made because I have 25 plus years working with children, 10 years of experience on this autism journey with my own son, and I know God’s promises are true.
What an awesome topic and clear advice for Christian writers like me who are in the beginning stages of writing their first book!
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU, ladies!
I’ve been wrestling with how to focus my message so I can reach the niche audience that I believe is waiting to hear my message. Your podcast has helped me narrow my focus and will save me a lot of time and effort I may otherwise have experienced by being too “broadminded” with my message of hope and healing for the broken hearted.
To answer the question posed above, I would say:
“I can offer spiritual encouragement and practical advice to full time Christian care-givers who are caring for physically or mentally disabled family members and feel heartbroken, overwhelmed, isolated and are in need of information, community and resources. I can offer this help because I spent fourteen years caring for a spouse who broke his neck in a freak accident and became paralyzed from the neck down. He also had psychological issues before he was injured, which became more pronounced after his injury and permanent confinement to a wheelchair. (Prior to my husband’s injury, we were hired as a couple as live-in help to a single quadriplegic man for a year and half. My husband’s accident occurred four days after we moved out of that gentleman’s home, and ended up with the exact same injury as the man we had been helping.) I know that God often prepares us for difficult parts of our life mission in ways we can’t possibly comprehend in advance. I also know that He gives us beauty for ashes in the midst of life’s imperfections, along with His grace, provision and strength to overcome whatever adversity we face in life, even when a situation looks impossible by man’s standards.”
